BETTER CONNECTED COMMUNITIES ON TASMANIA’S WEST COAST

Families, businesses and visitors to Tasmania’s scenic west coast will benefit from improved digital connectivity and access to services thanks to the Albanese Government’s Regional Connectivity Program.

Two projects are now complete that link the communities of Zeehan and Tullah to Tasmania’s existing fibre network, providing access to more reliable and higher capacity digital connections.

The projects were funded through the Regional Connectivity Program, with co-contributions from Hydro Tasmania and 42-24 in partnership with TasNetworks.

The Regional Connectivity Program is funding much-needed telecommunications infrastructure across regional, rural and remote Australia, with the Government working in partnership with state, territory and local governments, telecommunications providers and other third parties to deliver projects that meet community needs.

Over three rounds, the Government has committed more than $360 million towards almost 300 communications infrastructure projects to boost connectivity across the country.

The Regional Connectivity Program is part of the Albanese Government’s Better Connectivity Plan for Regional and Rural Australia, which is driving productivity and improving equity for regional and rural communities.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Communications Anika Wells:

“Reliable and resilient communications networks mean people can stay connected, access health, education and government services, work and stay safe in emergencies.

“That’s why the Albanese Government is continuing to deliver new and upgraded communications infrastructure for regional and rural Australia.

“Programs like the Regional Connectivity Program are helping to ensure that no Australian is left behind when it comes to connectivity.”

Quotes attributable to Federal Member for Braddon, Anne Urquhart:

“Small communities like Zeehan and Tullah know how important it is to have access to reliable communications, to access essential services, run their businesses and keep in touch with loved ones.

“I’m proud to be part of a government that is delivering for the regions, from remote communities to major regional towns across the country.”
