Delivering for the West Coast: New Waterfront and Gym Facilities Open in Strahan
Anne Urquhart MP, Federal Member for Braddon, today joined the West Coast community to celebrate two major milestones in Strahan the official opening of the upgraded Strahan Waterfront Slipway and the new multipurpose sport and gym facility.
The Strahan Waterfront Upgrade, a $4 million investment, marks a transformative step for the region. The Australian Government contributed $2 million through the Regional Recovery Partnerships Program, with the Tasmanian Government and West Coast Council also playing key roles.
“This upgraded slipway is more than just infrastructure it’s a game-changer for the local maritime industry,” Anne Urquhart said. “Larger vessels can now undergo maintenance locally, reducing costs and improving emergency response capabilities across the West Coast.”
The redevelopment also includes a new public amenities area, visitor centre, parking, and landscaped public spaces — enhancing the experience for locals and tourists alike.
Anne also officially opened the Strahan multipurpose sport and gym facility, part of the West Coast Sport and Recreation Plan Implementation project. The Australian Government invested $4 million into the Zeehan and Strahan gym projects, with the West Coast Council contributing $2.25 million.
The new facility features gym rooms, male and female amenities, an indoor multi-sport court, resurfaced tennis court, multipurpose rooms, parking, landscaping, and associated site works.
“These facilities will support healthier lifestyles and provide venues for gatherings that strengthen community bonds,” Anne Urquhart said. “Together, we’ve built more than just facilities we’ve built opportunities for a stronger, healthier, and more connected West Coast.”
