REVIEW TO ENSURE A STRONG FREIGHT FUTURE FOR
TASMANIA

The Albanese Labor Government is ensuring more Tasmanian households can access emergency
relief with a $5.7 million funding boost for the state.

Shared across 10 Commonwealth funded Emergency Relief providers, this additional funding means
more Braddon households doing it tough can access the essentials including supermarket, petrol,
pharmacy vouchers as well as food parcels and toiletries.

Local providers can also connect people with other support services, like financial counselling or
mental health support, to help them navigate tough times.

The organisations benefiting from this funding include:

  • St Vincent de Paul Society Tasmania
  • Youth, Family and Community Connections Incorporated
  • Wyndarra Centre Incorporated

This represents a 35 per cent increase in annual emergency relief funding for Tasmania until 2030,
taking the Albanese government’s total investment across the state to almost $18 million under
new grant arrangements which commenced 1 October 2025.

This funding builds on the Albanese Government’s 25 per cent boost to food relief and financial
wellbeing funding to help Aussies navigate tough times.

More information on Emergency Relief, including how to find a provider, is available on the
Department of Social Services website.

are struggling with the rising cost of living. We are seeing growing demand for assistance with food,
fuel, essential household items and everyday living expenses.”

we are also able to connect people with longer-term assistance such as housing services, financial
counselling, and wellbeing supports that strengthen outcomes for individuals and families.”

community. Additional investment in emergency relief strengthens our ability to respond quickly
