Final truck wash delivered for North West Tasmania

The fourth and final truck wash of the North West Tasmania Truck Wash and Effluent Dumping Facilities project has now been delivered by the Albanese Labor Government.

The Stanley Port Self Contained and Relocatable Truck Wash and Effluent Dump Facility is now open, with the Federal Government committing $4.7 million in funding to the project.

The Stanley site joins the Smithton, Minna Road and King Island truck wash facilities. Since being completed, farmers and truck drivers are able to clean their vehicles and equipment quickly and efficiently, thereby improving biosecurity, animal welfare and occupational health and safety.

Works at the Stanley site included the construction of a fully modular, self-contained and relocatable effluent dump facility, and construction of a truck wash bay. The project supported up to 30 jobs during construction.

Federal Member for Braddon, Anne Urquhart MP said facilities of this kind were new to the Stanley Port. This means livestock trailers will now be able to empty their holding tanks at the Port, solving the issue of trucks leaking waste throughout the historic town.

“Stanley will benefit just as King Island, Smithton and Burnie have benefitted from the truck washes the Albanese Labor Government has delivered for those towns,” Ms Urquhart said.

“The facility will make a big difference for the town and surrounding area, improving road safety, animal welfare and the visitor economy.

“Stanley is a top tourist destination for the North West Coast, and now the streets will be kept clean and tidy thanks to our investment.”
