NEW SMITHTON TRUCK WASH OPEN

Anne Urquhart MP today welcomes the official opening of the new Smithton Truck Wash, which adds to the North West’s growing network of truck wash facilities delivered by the Albanese Labor Government.

Following the opening of the Minna Road Truck Wash in April, and the delivery of the King Island Truck Wash in 2024, the Smithton facility will become the third truck wash to open as part of the North West Tasmania Truck Wash and Effluent Dumping Facilities project. The final truck wash will open in Stanley later this year.

The Federal Government delivered $4.7 million in funding for the Smithton site, with additional funding from the Tasmanian Government and TasWater.

The new facility will allow farmers and truck drivers to clean their vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently, improving biosecurity, road safety and animal welfare.

Federal Member for Braddon, Anne Urquhart MP said the new truck wash will improve biosecurity and agricultural sustainability in the region.

“I’m so pleased to open the third of four truck washes across Braddon. Practical infrastructure investments like these are critical to our region’s future needs,” Ms Urquhart said.

“The new Smithton facility will support our primary producers and freight industries, giving them the tools they need to uphold our biosecurity standards.”
