North West Tasmania shines this National Science Week

National Science Week kicked off on Saturday, with events taking place across every state and territory to celebrate Australian scientific achievements and encourage community participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

This National Science Week, the Albanese Labor Government is investing $17,820 to support Hive Tasmania in Ulverstone, helping inspire the next generation of scientists, innovators and problem-solvers while giving young people the opportunity to explore future STEM Careers.  

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. Here in Braddon, Hive’s 2026 National Science Week program Seeds of Curiosity is packed full of activities and events for children and adults alike.

Federal Member for Braddon, Anne Urquhart MP said this week is an opportunity for locals to learn something new, and discover more about the vibrant science community on the North West Coast.

“There are events for both kids and adults to participate, spark interest in the sciences and support our local museums and community organisations” Ms Urquhart said.

“I am proud to be part of a government which backs science, including investing an additional $387 million into the CSIRO over the next four years.

“This week celebrates the contribution made by researchers, educators and innovators in helping us understand the world and improve it. That’s absolutely worth celebrating.”
