Official Opening of Minna Road Truck Wash and Effluent Dump Facility

The official opening of the Minna Road Truck Wash and Effluent Dump Facility in Burnie marks a significant investment in biosecurity, road safety and agricultural sustainability for Tasmania’s North‑West.

The Minna Road facility is part of the North West Tasmania Truck Wash and Effluent Dumping Facilities project, which received $4.7 million in Australian Government funding.

Works at the Minna Road site included:

  • Construction of at least two truck wash and effluent dump bays
  • Installation of an onsite water treatment and management system

The new Minna Road facility provides farmers and transport operators with purpose‑built infrastructure to safely clean vehicles and equipment, strengthening biosecurity protections, road safety, occupational health and safety, and animal welfare.

Transport operators are legally and operationally responsible for helping control the spread of disease and weeds through livestock transport. Effective effluent containment, responsible disposal and proper washing of trucks are key measures to reducing the risk of spreading disease or invasive species between properties.

Federal Member for Braddon, Anne Urquhart MP, said the Minna Road facility was a practical investment in infrastructure that supports both industry and the wider community.

“The opening of the Minna Road Truck Wash is a real boost for Burnie and the wider North‑West,” Ms Urquhart said.

“This facility gives our farmers and transport operators the tools they need to meet biosecurity requirements, protect animal welfare and operate safely on our roads.”

“It’s a sensible, long‑term investment that supports local jobs and helps protect Tasmania’s vital agricultural industry.”
