MEDIA RELEASE
Public Consultation opens on TFES Issue Paper
The Transport Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES) Issue Paper will be released for public consultation on Monday 15th December 2025. This review is a critical opportunity to ensure the scheme continues to meet the unique needs of Tasmania’s remote communities, including King Island.
The TFES plays a vital role in supporting freight affordability and connectivity for businesses and residents. Decisions made through this review will shape the future of transport access and economic sustainability for the region.
Online consultation is now open and will remain available until 30 January 2026, complementing the in-person sessions already conducted by the reviewers.
Community members, businesses, and stakeholders are strongly encouraged to provide feedback and ensure King Island’s voice is heard. Submissions can be made via the following link:
Anne Urquhart MP, Federal Member for Braddon said:
“TFES is a lifeline for King Island and other remote communities. As previously the Deputy Chair of the Select Committee reviewing this scheme, I know how important it is that local voices are heard.”
“This review is our chance to make sure the scheme continues to deliver fair and practical support for freight costs. I urge everyone local businesses, community leaders, and residents to have their say. Your feedback will help shape decisions for King Island’s future.”
