MEDIA RELEASE

The music sounds better in Braddon

The Albanese Labor Government is delivering on its commitment to support our live music industry to keep venues open and festivals entertaining fans across the country.

Through the Revive Live program, the Albanese Labor Government will provide support to 105 organisations across Australia, including in Braddon.

The funding ensures music venues and festivals remain open and accessible to all audiences.

Among those receiving funding are:

  • Good Gumnuts Festival, Tasmania: the much-loved local music initiative will receive $70,000 to support Australian Artist Fees, Professional Development, Production and Accessibility Costs

Good Gumnuts Festival has grown remarkably over the years, starting as an "Anniversary Festival" for festival organisers Harry Badcock and Charlotte Grey to celebrate a year of marriage with their nearest and dearest, four years on has become a highlight festival for families and visitors alike.

Good Gumnuts festival aims to foster community, connection, and unforgettable memories in a picturesque setting, supporting a diverse range of Australian music.

Member for Braddon, Anne Urquhart, said the funding is a win for the region.

“Good Gumnuts is a fantastic example of how live music brings people together and strengthens our community. This support means local artists can keep performing and audiences can keep enjoying the music we love.”

Harry Baldock, Festival Organiser welcomed the announcement:

“When Charlotte and I got the call from Anne to say our application was successful, it honestly blew us away. What we do at Good Gumnuts is all about spreading the joy of music, arts, and culture, and bringing people to the northwest coast of Tassie. Receiving this funding means we can focus even more on delivering what we set out to achieve.”

“The music industry is tough right now, so support like this is absolutely incredible. We’re genuinely grateful to the Albanese Labor Government for backing us, supporting our dream, and helping us bring an event of this scale to the northwest coast.”

Established in the 2024-25 Budget, Revive Live aligns with the Albanese Labor Government’s National Cultural Policy, Revive, which recognises the Australian music sector as a vibrant part of our arts and cultural landscape.

Through Revive, the Government last year established Music Australia within Creative Australia, with new funding of more than $69 million to support and promote the Australian contemporary music industry to increase discoverability and develop markets and audiences.
