Turning sod on new Devonport homes to boost local housing supply
Construction is underway on a new housing development in Devonport that will deliver more safe and affordable homes for people in North West Tasmania.
Federal Member for Braddon, Anne Urquhart MP, today joined Senator Josh Dolega, Wilson Homes and Loreto Community Housing to turn the sod at 87A Hillcrest Road, marking the start of works on the new development.
Funded through the Albanese Labor Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF), the project will deliver 10 new homes, including 5 social housing properties and 5 affordable housing properties.
The development, led by the team at Loreto Community Housing, will help meet growing demand for housing across the region and support vulnerable members of the community.
Anne Urquhart MP said the project was a strong example of the Albanese Labor Government working with community housing providers to deliver real outcomes for locals.
“This is exactly the kind of investment our region needs more homes, built sooner, for the people who need them most,”
“These 10 homes will make a meaningful difference, particularly for older women, frontline workers, and people escaping domestic and family violence.”
“Every home we build strengthens our community and helps ensure more North West Tasmanians have access to safe, secure housing.”
Construction has now commenced, with the project expected to provide long-term housing outcomes for people on the social housing waitlist and those in need of stable accommodation.
